Public accuracy snapshot
How often is the forecast right?
Real angler reports, aggregated. No marketing spin. We publish the numbers because the only way a forecast tool earns trust is by being accountable for its predictions.
Not enough data to publish hit rates yet.
We have 0 votes recorded so far. Cast & Scan publishes per-species and per-region accuracy only after enough independent reports accumulate to make a number meaningful — at least 5 votes per species, 8 per region. Come back when more anglers have tested the forecast.
Run a scan and report back to help us reach the threshold faster.
Why we publish this
Most fishing forecast apps tell you a confident-looking number ("84% active!") and never come back to tell you whether they were right. That gives short-term engagement and long-term distrust.
Cast & Scan does the opposite. After every scan, you can tap a thumbs-up or thumbs-down to tell us whether the predicted window actually produced a bite. Those votes are aggregated anonymously (no IP, no email, location coarsened to ~11 km) and feed the snapshot above. They also feed back into the model — when the community consistently reports a species mismatch in a region, we retune the weights for that combination.
What "well-calibrated" actually means
A well-calibrated forecast doesn't have to be high all the time — it has to be honest. When we predict "high confidence" the hit rate should be much higher than when we predict "low". If the bands collapse on top of each other, we're not actually telling you anything.
That's the calibration table above. Watch it over weeks; healthy calibration looks like a clear staircase, not a flat line.
How the numbers are gathered
- Every vote is anonymous — no signup, no email, no IP retained.
- Location is coarsened to a 0.1° grid (~11 km) before storage.
- Species and water-type buckets need at least 5 votes to be published; regions need 8. This avoids one user's run of luck distorting a published number.
- The API behind this page is cached for 5–10 minutes, so refreshes don't double-count.
See the full privacy page for what we store and what we don't.
